As of late the light's been low
and it's depart has made you glow,
as oceans burn against the dawn
your ember grows as day is gone
and brings to life the night anew
with dancing flame that flows for you.
Without a sun to show some fault
the dusk, your visage there exalts
with what little light remains of worth
to blend your face with sky and earth
and grace an image not yet of you,
but still a heart that mine love true.

Glow
Lying naked in my bed
I glimpse the face of war
then look back to stars
who aren't there anymore.
Golden light, peering in
doesn't see too far,
Night's been drinking heavily,
and left me with a scar.

Speak Easy
I have an image of you.
Pieced together times,
a post-modern jigsaw:
I'd like to think I know you.
Don't talk to be serious
but talk just for fun,
Speak of your dreams
and things that you've done.
We'll spend all our nights
away from our beds,
Speak at great lengths
and forget what was said.
To laugh and remind us
what's got to our heads.
There's more in your eye
than reflections of what you see
the image I hold of you
is too much a reflection of me.
Tell me who you are
and what you want to be.
I want to get to know you
I want your company
I want to get to know you
but, well,
you know me....

Pollen
There's nothing quite like
an exquisite sense of loss,
A wonderful reminder
you are still alive.
- End Poem.
In time I hope to see
the shaded sands of all the world.
I'll steal a little of each kind,
all potential pearls.
Oh, the magic I will make,
with those tiny rocks,
They'll be such great communicates
I'll have no need to talk.
The sand will be my castle,
until I wash away.
Bits of me to carry,
bottled messages astray.
Drift into the sunset
and dark that knows no moon,
Drift without regret
'til I find I start to soon.
Pray for western winds
Pray to see the shore
Pray to drift alone again
Pray to drift no more.
Home.
Change in this Blog
So I haven't really been using this blog as a blog since I came back from Europe, so now I'm going to basically turn it into a place for me to post poetry and song lyrics that I'm working on. A big goal of mine is to become a good songwriter and poet, so any input (positive, negative or otherwise) is incredibly welcome. I know not that many people read this, but hey, who knows.

I'm in a good place right now
Seriously, I fell like these are working out for me in just about the best way possible. I'm only a month into my year without school, and already I've learned more than I ever could have imagined. Boston is amazing, seriously. Everyone here takes pride in their city, everybody is fairly friendly, and there's just a good feeling I get when I walk around. I get asked for directions probably two or three times a week now, and I'm happy to say that I can actually give usefull directions 60-70% of the time. I did my laundry for the first time the otherday, which was awesome because I finally get to wear my new jacket I got at the garment district pile of clothing. I wore it tonight to Harpers Ferry, where Dug and I saw Left Alone, Mustard Plug, and the Voodoo Glow Skulls tonight (absolutely amazing show, one of the best I've ever been to). While there we talked to Rick and Dave from Mustard Plug for like, 10 minutes, and got to question them about being in a band and what life is like for them. We also got to talk to Eric ( Saxaphone) from the Glowskulls and I hoedowned with the keyboardist from Left Alone. I'm going to buy my ticket for the Bosstones friday morning, and I'm more than excited for that, I can't even describe it. Also, I had dinner tonight with Ishan, who I met at the Coke scholar community service weekend, and he and his roommate Brian and I talked about music and the music industry and colleges around here and working on Cruise Ships and just everything (Ishan is an opera singer, and Brian is a proffessional Jazz saxaphonist). Ishan made really good salmon too.
wow.
My name is Garrett Frierson. I'm 18, I work two jobs to pay for rent and music lessons, I live with 3 grad students from Africa (Moses, Etel, and Aeriahn) and a proffesor from Vietnam (Tving), I have a second hand bike that doesn't change gears, I sleep on a second hand futon that's just a little to soft, I still haven't fully unpacked my suitcases, I have taken pictures that I need to put up of my living space, my window leaks in cold air when it's chilly out so I'll probably line it with newspaper and duct tape when winter comes, I don't get enough sleep, and I'm loving every minute of it.
I love you all, I wish you were here with me.
