Seriously, I fell like these are working out for me in just about the best way possible. I'm only a month into my year without school, and already I've learned more than I ever could have imagined. Boston is amazing, seriously. Everyone here takes pride in their city, everybody is fairly friendly, and there's just a good feeling I get when I walk around. I get asked for directions probably two or three times a week now, and I'm happy to say that I can actually give usefull directions 60-70% of the time. I did my laundry for the first time the otherday, which was awesome because I finally get to wear my new jacket I got at the garment district pile of clothing. I wore it tonight to Harpers Ferry, where Dug and I saw Left Alone, Mustard Plug, and the Voodoo Glow Skulls tonight (absolutely amazing show, one of the best I've ever been to). While there we talked to Rick and Dave from Mustard Plug for like, 10 minutes, and got to question them about being in a band and what life is like for them. We also got to talk to Eric ( Saxaphone) from the Glowskulls and I hoedowned with the keyboardist from Left Alone. I'm going to buy my ticket for the Bosstones friday morning, and I'm more than excited for that, I can't even describe it. Also, I had dinner tonight with Ishan, who I met at the Coke scholar community service weekend, and he and his roommate Brian and I talked about music and the music industry and colleges around here and working on Cruise Ships and just everything (Ishan is an opera singer, and Brian is a proffessional Jazz saxaphonist). Ishan made really good salmon too.
wow.
My name is Garrett Frierson. I'm 18, I work two jobs to pay for rent and music lessons, I live with 3 grad students from Africa (Moses, Etel, and Aeriahn) and a proffesor from Vietnam (Tving), I have a second hand bike that doesn't change gears, I sleep on a second hand futon that's just a little to soft, I still haven't fully unpacked my suitcases, I have taken pictures that I need to put up of my living space, my window leaks in cold air when it's chilly out so I'll probably line it with newspaper and duct tape when winter comes, I don't get enough sleep, and I'm loving every minute of it.
I love you all, I wish you were here with me.
and my address is Garrett Frierson - 7 Lothian Road Appt 7a - Brighton, MA 02135

Boston Public library is amazing
Basically, I just got an online library card, allowing me to download digital media from them for 2 week periods using this special software you download, and already I have three of the most inspiring cd's I've ever heard. If you ever get the chance, check out Aras by Curandero. It is an incredible spanish guitarist who plays with an Indian Tabla player and they have guest artists like, oh I dunno, Bela Fleck. Seriously, I should go to bed but I can't stop listening to this....

Jon
So I really should be in bed right now. Seriously. I left Boston College at 11 40 and it took me 3 hours to get home, a little ridiculous. I ended up walking from Forest hills (the last Orange line subway stop) home, which is usually a fifteen minute bus ride because the last bus wasn't starting and it still had to wait for the last commuter train to come in. But that's not why I'm writing this, that would not be worth comment.
Why I'm writing this is because all that crap with the T gave me a chance to meet an amazing person. His name is Jon, he just graduated from Conneticut College with a degree in Math and a minor in chemistry and now he's going to BU for a MT program. He moved to Boston with a friend, who he share the third floor of a house with (which his friend's uncle owns, whom they're renting from) and is experiencing much of the same difficulties I'm having getting used to living in a house with people that you don't know or ever see, but whom you can hear all the time. He really wants to go see the West Coast sometime, especially California and the Redwoods, and Portland and Seattle as well. He agrees that people in big cities on the East Coast are pretty cold and live in the ultra fast lane without wanting to talke to anyone, and, like me, he'd much rather get to know people. He's just a really cool guy.
I learned all this on my walk from the end of the orange line home, because as I walking he was walking in the same direction and asked where I was going, and when we reached the conclusion we were going the same way he asked if I'd like to be walking buddies to make the walk home a little safer for each of us, seeing as how we we're both gypped by the T (he was coming home from the Red Sox game). The half hour walk home seemed like just a few minutes because of the awesome conversation we had walking back, and I found out he lives just a few blocks away from me. It's a real pitty I'm moving this Sunday, otherwise I might be in touch with him. I should've gotten a phone number or e-mail or something, but it was really late and we both wanted to get home.
and even if it hadn't been, there's something to be said about meeting someone at 2 in the morning while you're walking home, walking and talking with them, and not really having any proof that it ever happened. It reminds one that the world is full of people who can change your life, give you a new perspective, or just keep you company on the way home. All you have to do is introduce yourself.
Love,
Garrett
P.S. Goodnight.

I bet the busy Boston boy will be back blogging
Eventually. Not that I've ever kept this continually updated, but I'm gonna try to be more regular starting soon. Things should calm down a little bit after I move this weekend (horray!) and get settled into a semi-normal schedule, but you all know me, which means none of us do.
Anywho, I'm busy as a clam trying to make a pearl write now, between trying to visit Berklee and get jobs and train for said jobs and moving and finding a piano teacher and my internship and helping sue get ready for open studios and registering for other part time things to get money and getting screwed by the T and trying to study music and possibly buy an accordian and getting ready for open mic night with dug and miky this friday and you get the idea.
No worries though, I'm sure it all work out one way or another.
I'm happy! Woo! I love you all!
